Sometimes it’s hard to find motivation in monotony. Daily life can be like that. Up with an alarm, go through a regular morning routine, go to work, come home and do things around the house, relax for a bit, then go to bed knowing it all starts again tomorrow. Sometimes it can be maddening. Sometimes you really need to search for motivation. Yes, you can find motivation in a nice spring day, or coming home to a furry face looking at you from the door expectantly holding a toy in her mouth, or having something on the calendar to look forward to. But I also realized that motivation can come from being grateful. Grateful for small things that we so often take for granted. Being able to pay your bills, having a job to go to, family and friends, or having a talent that may not be fully unleashed. We all have something to be grateful for… some more than others, for sure. But there’s always something. And if we can recognize that we do have those things, the gratitude may be all motivation we need to be a better writer, or wife, or friend, or daughter. Gratitude can be motivation… a pretty simple concept, but one that I hope can carry me through the rest of my life. Wow… a bit too deep for a Thursday night!
